Your Privacy Matters

Thank you for visiting MyLife for Schools, a division of MyLife, Inc. (“MyLife for Schools”, “us”, “we” or “our), a Meredith Corporation company. MyLife for Schools respects the privacy of all of its users. We believe that the regular practice of mindfulness and compassion is critical to emotional wellness and that this concept applies equally to children. Our intention is to create a safe and secure environment for all of our users and in particular our student users, for whom we have implemented special protections. We commit to use student personal information in compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and any data protection agreements we enter into, as well as the following core principles:

We only use student personal information to provide the MyLife for Schools services, we will not use student personal information for any other purposes, such as marketing or advertising;

We will not use targeted advertising on MyLife for Schools;

We will not retain student personal information beyond the period determined by your School.

This Privacy Policy informs you about our policies and practices regarding the collection and use of your and your students’ information and lets you know about options that you have to control or restrict the availability and use of your and your students’ information. Please note that, under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”) schools must control access, retention, and other rights related to student personal information that is part of an educational record. Therefore, we may need to direct you to your school in order for you to assert certain rights.

If you are a teacher, school administrator, or district administrator, you are solely responsible for obtaining any necessary parental consents before allowing students to use the services.

MyLife for Schools provides easy tools and inspiring content to help improve your mental wellness, every day. We deliver to students (“Student Users”) and their teachers or school/district administrators or other school personnel accessing the Services on their own behalf or on behalf of their Student Users (“School Users”) (together, “Users”, “you”, “your”) stories, and meditation and mental wellness activities via the MyLife for Schools website (currently located at classroom.stopbreathethink.com), and through any other platform or media through which we may make such services available (together, the “Services”).

Children's and Students' Privacy

As required by applicable law and our Terms of Use For Schools, children under the age of 13 in the U.S. (and a higher age if required by the applicable law in another country) may only use our Services with the express prior consent of a parent or legal guardian or with the prior consent of the child’s school or district in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”). If you are a School User, you are responsible for obtaining any necessary parental consents before allowing students to use the Services.

School Users

  • “School Users” may also access, update and edit personal information that is in their account by viewing the Profile section of their account when signed in.

Student Users

  • To request deletion or access Student User information, you may contact your school.
  • Note that Student User requests may be subject to the approval of their school.
Rights for Our California Residents

You have all the rights listed above. In addition, if you’re a resident of California, you have the right to:

Children's and Students' Privacy

As required by applicable law and our Terms of Service [LINK] children under the age of 13 in the U.S. (and a higher age if required by the applicable law in another country) may only use our Services with the express prior consent of a parent or legal guardian or through an account with a School User as set forth in this Privacy Policy. If you are a School User, you are responsible for obtaining any necessary parental consents before allowing students to use the Services. If we learn that personal information of a child has been collected on our Services without prior parental consent, then we will take appropriate steps to delete this information.

MyLife takes student privacy very seriously. We developed MyLife for Schools with student privacy in mind and will only collect, use, or disclose student data in compliance with all applicable laws, including FERPA and applicable state laws, any student data protection agreements we enter into, and our Terms of Service. Except to a successor bound by this Privacy Policy in the case of a merger or acquisition, we will not sell student data. We will never use student data to conduct targeted advertising or for marketing purposes; however, we may use de-identified, aggregated data for any lawful purpose. We will never ask you to send to us or disclose any sensitive personal information (e.g., social security numbers, information related to racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religion or other beliefs, biometric information or genetic characteristics, criminal background) on or through the Services or otherwise to us.

Where/How Do We Collect Information About You and Your Students?

We and our service providers may collect other information in a variety of ways, including:

From You.

When School Users create an account. We collect the following information through the School User’s account:

  • Classroom ID (Required)
  • Student ID (Required)
  • Student Email (Required)
  • Grade Level (Required)
  • Google Authenticator (Required)
  • Teacher First and Last Name (Required)
  • Teacher Email (Required)
  • Display Name (Optional)

School Users are responsible for obtaining any necessary parental consents to share information about Student Users under 13. School Users will create accounts on behalf of Student Users. MyLife for Schools does not currently require or permit Student Users to set up an account or to input any personal information but Student Users will be required to create their own password.

When School Users contact us. We may collect names and email addresses from School Users who correspond with us or sign up for newsletters. We will not ask for any personal information about a Student User, and School Users should not include such information in any correspondence. If School Users need to refer to a Student User account, they should refer to the Student ID of the Student User so that we may distinguish between the School User’s students.

Through a connected application. If you enable interoperability with a third party application (such as Google SSCO or Clever), additional personal information that you have provided to that third party application may be collected and/or you may specifically authorize MyLife to access certain information from such third party application. The information we obtain may depend on the privacy settings you have with the third party application, and the information obtained may not be visible in your account. If you access services through a third party, your data may be on their servers and is subject to their privacy policies. The information we collect is subject to this Privacy Policy. The information collected and stored by the third party remains subject to the third party's privacy practices, including whether the third party continues to share information with us, the types of information shared, and your choices with regard to what is visible to others on that third party website and service. The third party may allow you to remove the application or feature, in which case we will no longer collect information about you through the application or feature, but we may retain the information previously collected in compliance with all applicable laws.

When a User shares information. If a User shares a meditation with another User, we may collect this information but will not make this information viewable beyond those contacts with whom they chose to share it.

From Your Device. Log Data. When a User interacts with the Services, our servers automatically record information that the User’s mobile device or browser sends, including through the use of cookies and other tracking technologies. This may include information such as the computer’s IP (Internet Protocol) address and browser type, the operating system, and other generalized analytics that help us deliver and monitor the effectiveness of our Services.

Usage Information. We collect information about the User as they navigate through our Services. For example, when a User selects images that reflect their moods and emotions as they enter the Services, the User is explicitly sending moods/emotions information, which MyLife for Schools will use to improve its activity recommendations to the User. We also track the content and time for each activity by the User for the purposes of knowing which activities are being used and also for measuring the progress of our Users, which allows them to earn stickers. We will then associate the stickers with a Student User’s account.

Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies. We use cookies and other tracking technologies to track the content and time for each activity by the User to measure their progress and analyze the use of our Services.

How Do We Use Your Information?

We want to give Users the best experience possible. We collect Users information for the following purposes:

Provide and Improve the Services. MyLife for Schools uses User Information to provide the Services, including, for School Users only, to provide School Users with newsletters and other information about features in our products or third party products and services that may be of interest to you.

Deliver a personalized experience to our Users. MyLife for Schools uses User information to improve its activity recommendations to the Student User. We also track the content and time for each activity by the Student User for the purposes of knowing which activities are being used and also for measuring the progress of our Student Users, which allows them to earn stickers. We will then associate the stickers with a Student User’s account. We may also contact Student Users with MyLife for School progress reports as requested by School Users.

Research and analytics. We use User information to track a User’s progress, monitor and analyze the use of the Services, analyze usage patterns, optimize access to our Services, and control the load on our servers so that we can serve School Users and their Student Users better. We do not use Student User information to contact Student Users for any purpose other than sending them their usage data as requested by School Users. We do not track Users across other websites or online services. Any required communications with the Student User will be directed to the School User.

Who Do We Share Your Information With?

We do not disclose information collected from School Users or Student Users to third parties, other than in the limited circumstances described below.

Our Service Providers.

We may employ third party companies and individuals to help us deliver our Services, or payment processing, to perform maintenance and research services, or to assist us in analyzing how our Services are used (such as infrastructure providers, database management, web or mobile analytics and improvement of the Services’ features). These third parties will receive access to School Users’ and their Student Users’ information solely and only to the extent necessary in order to perform these tasks on our behalf.

Aggregate Information and Non-Identifying Information.

We may use and disclose to third parties information that does not include personal information for the purposes of industry analysis, research, demographic profiling, marketing, and other purposes relating to our Services. Any aggregated information shared in these contexts will not contain or be connected with your personal information.

Business Transfers.

If MyLife for School’s business, stock, or assets are sold to, merged with, or acquired by another company, we may transfer School Users’ and Student User’s information in connection with that sale, merger, acquisition, joint venture, reorganization, assignment, transfer, or other disposition of all or any portion of our business, stock, or assets (including in connection with any due diligence or other review prior to such business transaction subject to customary confidentiality provisions). School Users will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on Services of any completed change in ownership, as well as any choices you may have regarding your personal information. The new owner will use your information in accordance with the terms of this Privacy Policy, which may be amended as described below.

Compliance with Laws and Law Enforcement.

We may disclose School Users’ and/or Student User’s information to government or law enforcement officials or private parties if we believe in good faith that such disclosure is reasonable, appropriate, or necessary to comply with applicable laws, to cooperate with public and government authorities and law enforcement, to respond to valid legal process such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, or court order, to protect the property and rights of MyLife for Schools or a third party, to protect the safety of the public or any person, or to prevent or stop activity we may consider to be, or to pose a risk of being, illegal, unethical or legally actionable.

Disclosure under FERPA

When MyLife is used as part of school programming, we may disclose certain information about students to their respective schools and/or (for students under the age of 18) authorized parent/guardian under FERPA. FERPA provides parents (or students if over 18) with certain rights with regards to those records. For more information on those rights and other important information about FERPA, please contact your school.

How Can You Control Our Use of Information?

NOTE: The rights set out in this section may be limited for Student Users (or their parents) by our obligations under FERPA. For the potential limitations on these rights due to FERPA, please contact your school.

Right to Know: You have the right to ask us to tell you what personal information we collect use, disclose and sell about you.

Right to Request Deletion: You have the right to ask us to delete the personal information we collect or maintain about you.

Right to be Free from Discrimination: You have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

Right to Access or Correct Your Information: You have the right to request access to and to edit certain personal information that you have provided to us through our Services.

What Other Choices Do You Have?

Marketing Communications. We may, from time to time, send School Users emails regarding our products and services, or other third party products and services we think you may enjoy. When a School User receives marketing messages from us, the School User may indicate a preference to stop receiving further communications from us by electing to “unsubscribe”. We will, however, still send the School User administrative messages regarding the Services, including product updates/changes, and we may message the School User concerning their Student Users. We will never send marketing communications to Student Users.

Account Information. School Users may access, update and edit certain personal information that is linked to their account. Student Users cannot access the information in their account but can view their stickers and may be able to view their history for activities, emojis selected, and stickers collected. School Users may contact us at support@my.life with a request to review, delete, and/or restrict further collection of any information associated with the account(s) of their Student User(s). We may retain an archived copy of your or your Student User’s records as required or permitted by law.

Closing Your Account. If a School User, a Student User, or a parent of a Student User wishes to close their account or their Student User’s account with our Services, please contact your school or us, and we will honor the request to delete the account and its information to the extent possible within the context of FERPA and applicable law.

Upon termination of a User’s account, MyLife for Schools will take commercially reasonable steps to delete any personal information, from our live databases in a reasonable amount of time not to exceed sixty (60) days. The Users understand and agree that MyLife for Schools may continue to have personal information in archive files or similar databases or that certain information might continue to exist in other User accounts that remain active. The Users further agree that MyLife has no obligation to delete aggregated or de-identified information. MyLife for Schools may retain and use aggregated and de-identified information for any purpose consistent with laws and regulations.

Even if the User’s account is closed, information may remain in backup or archive records and we may retain certain data relevant to preventing fraud or future abuse or for legitimate business purposes, such as analysis of aggregated, non-identifying or de-identified data, account recovery or if required by law. All retained data will continue to be subject to the applicable privacy policy for the Service.

Cookies & Other Technologies.

  • Your Options. Most web browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. You may be able to reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being set. Instructions to remove persistent cookies can be found through your Internet browser. Mobile devices may contain settings that allow you to disable tracking and/or analytics. MyLife for Schools does not currently respond to “Do Not Track” signals. Be aware, however, that if you choose to disable cookies or opt out of tracking or disengage similar features on your mobile device, some or all areas of the Services may not be optimized for your use and you may not be able to access the full functionality of the Services.
  • Analytics and Opt-Out. We use Google Analytics, which uses cookies and similar technologies to collect and analyze information about use of the Services and report on activities and trends. This service may also collect information regarding the use of other websites, apps and online resources. You can learn about Google’s practices and exercise the opt-out provided by Google by downloading the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Third Party Services. The Services may contain links or integrations to third party applications, websites or services. We have no control over and are not responsible for these outside services or their content. This Privacy Policy does not govern School Users’ or Student Users’ visits to or use of these other services. These other services and applications may set their own cookies on users or collect data or personal information from School Users and Student Users. Users should refer to any privacy policies on such services and applications to understand how their information may be collected and used, and should choose appropriate settings for sharing their personal information before proceeding to or enabling any integration with a third party service or application.

Additional Privacy Information

Sensitive Information. Unless we specifically request it, we ask that you do not send to us or disclose any sensitive personal information (e.g., social security numbers, information related to racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religion or other beliefs, biometrics or genetic characteristics, criminal background) on or through the Services or otherwise to us.

Security and Storage of Information. We protect personal information using reasonable administrative, physical and technological measures designed to maintain the security of personal information, but unfortunately, no data transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, please immediately notify us at support@my.life

Our Location. MyLife for Schools is located in the United States. Accordingly, the information we collect may be transferred to and stored on our servers or those of our service providers (such as hosting providers) in the United States or other countries that may have data protection rules that are different from those of your country. If School Users and Student Users are located outside the United States, they acknowledge that their information will be transferred to the United States and/or other countries.

EU-U.S. Privacy Shield. Meredith adheres to the principles of the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework (“Privacy Shield Principles”) as set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce regarding the collection, use, and retention of personal information transferred from the European Union (“EU”) to the United States, and it is in the process of certifying its compliance with the U.S. Department of Commerce. If there is any conflict between the terms in this privacy policy and the Privacy Shield Principles, the Privacy Shield Principles shall govern. Meredith is responsible for the processing of personal information it receives under the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield Framework, or subsequently transfers to a third party acting as an agent on its behalf. Meredith complies with the Privacy Shield Principles for all onward transfers from the EU and EEA, including onward transfer liability provisions.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has jurisdiction over Meredith’s compliance with its obligations under the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield. In certain situations, Meredith may be required to disclose personal information in response to a lawful request by public authorities, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements.

In compliance with the Privacy Shield Principles, Meredith commits to resolve complaints about our collection or use of your personal information. EU individuals with inquiries or complaints regarding our Privacy Shield policy should first contact us at support@my.life. If you do not receive timely acknowledgment of your complaint from us, or if we have not resolved your complaint, you may submit your complaint at no cost to you to JAMS, our independent recourse mechanism, at https://www.jamsadr.com/eu-us-privacy-shield. In the event there are residual complaints that have not been resolved by JAMS, or any other means, you may seek a non-monetary remedy through binding arbitration to be provided to you in accordance with the Privacy Shield Principles.

Changes to Our Privacy Policy. MyLife for Schools reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will inform you of any changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy on the MyLife for Schools website. Your continued use of the Services following an update to this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

This section contains information on the personal information we collect about residents of California (our “California Consumers”), including the sources of that information, how that informed is used, who it is shared with, and the rights that California Consumers have under California law. Our collection of your information, our data sharing practices, and your privacy rights are discussed below. For purposes of this section “Personal Information” has the meaning given in the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (“CCPA”),but does not include information excluded from the scope of the CCPA. Note that Student User rights under CCPA may be impacted by our obligations under FERPA.
